Property Information

  • This centrally located characterful cottage was built during the 1840s, survived the 1870s landslides and was home to one of the Hedgemead Park keepers.

On the ground floor the flagstoned hallway leads to the lounge with a period fireplace and historical pictures of the local area. A panelled opening leads through to the fully-fitted kitchen-diner with slate flooring, granite worktop and a lovely farmhouse table and chairs. Facilities include a dishwasher, gas hob, electric oven, microwave and an undercounter fridge with a small freezer compartment.

At the rear French doors open to a small enclosed courtyard with a bistro set and a storeroom housing the washer dryer. There is a small raised pond.

Upstairs, the King sized master bedroom is light with an original wooden floor, fireplace and views across the city. The second bedroom has twin iron beds which can be ziplinked to form a Superking (accessed from one side).

The attractive bathroom has a decorative fireplace and good quality fittings including an overhead power shower in the bath.

To the front of the property is another lushly planted and private patio perfect for al-fresco dining.

The cottage is very central and only a short walk along artisan Walcot Street or the Georgian Paragon to the main attractions of Bath. There are several award winning bars and restaurants close by.

Children are made very welcome in this enchanting cottage. There is no car access to the property which is surrounded by a park providing a lovely leafy and safe environment to explore. A travelcot and highchair are available as well as toys/games/books/videos.  NB the pond measures 180cm long, 25cm wide and 22cm deep, it is uncovered but is 50cm above ground level.

The cottage has gas central heating throughout, broadband, WiFi, phone for incoming calls, television, DVD, video, CD player with iPod docking station and an impressive selection of games. Anti-allergy duvets, cotton bed linen, towels and tea towels are included.

Access: the cottage is accessed via 24 steps (equipped with a handrail) and a short path. Since there is no road access to the property allocated parking is 150 metres away. Please note: the fireplace in the lounge is available for use during Xmas and New Year bookings.

All Bath & Country Holidays rentals are non-smoking. This property does not accept pets.

Special rates apply for Christmas and New Year.

“The cottage is very comfortable. Staying here felt like I was at home. Every time we go to England, I have jet lag for 3 or 4 days. From our first night here, we went to bed at night and I went straight to sleep. I did wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning but I did that when we returned home too. The linens, dishes, and appliances are all high quality; the same ones you would have in your own home. The double bed is very comfortable. I didn’t try the single beds but imagine they are too. The owner has put information in binders so that it is easy to connect to the WiFi, use the TV, plan day trips, eat out or explore Bath. If you are not in shape you may want to take someone with you to carry your luggage. : ) There is no access to the cottage by car. The car park is across the street. Once you park the car you will have to go up some steps that are a bit steep. Once you get your luggage up the hill all is good; you will be in better shape when you have to sadly leave the cottage at the end of your stay. I personally liked the car park being across the street. As far as I’m concerned, this place is perfect. The only thing that could possibly be better is if I owned it so that I could stay here any time I wanted. And I would want that often. On second thought, perhaps you shouldn’t stay here in case I want to visit again. We had a wonderful stay here and I hope you do too.” May 2012

We stayed in the house for one week during September. The house was very well equipped with everything you would need and is about a ten minute walk from the centre of Bath. There was a selection of videos and books available as well as board games for children. The kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked indoors a few nights and we had everything we needed utensils wise. The beds were so comfortable. I didn’t want to get up on a morning I was so snug. The sash windows overlooked the outskirts of Bath, so lovely greenery. The house itself is wonderful and the housekeeper was lovely, she explained loads of things about the house – really nice lady. She also bought milk for us, which I thought was nice. The house is near lots of bars and cafes.”
